MOHAMMED AKHTAR AND SHOCKING CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN ROTHERHAM
A man named Mohammed Akhtar has admitted to the heinous crime of raping a 13-year-old girl in Rotherham during the early years of the 2000s.This serious development comes as part of a broader investigation into child sexual exploitation and abuse that has rocked the town for years.
The case was brought before Sheffield Crown Court on 17 October 2023, where Akhtar, aged 42, pleaded guilty to multiple charges.
Specifically, he admitted to two counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault, all of which occurred between August 2001 and July 2002.
These crimes are part of the extensive Operation Stovewood, a major initiative led by the National Crime Agency aimed at uncovering and prosecuting child abuse cases in Rotherham spanning from 1997 to 2013.
According to court proceedings and evidence presented, Akhtar repeatedly targeted the young girl during this period.
On numerous occasions, he would pick her up in his vehicle and drive her to various locations around Rotherham, where he committed the sexual offences.
The victim was manipulated and groomed over time, with Akhtar providing her with alcohol and drugs during their meetings, further entangling her in a cycle of abuse.
Throughout the ordeal, the girl was led to believe that she was in a genuine relationship with Akhtar.
His manipulative tactics included threats, such as warning her that he would take her to unknown places and abandon her if she refused to comply with his sexual demands.
These threats were used to exert control and silence her fears.
One particularly distressing incident involved the victim refusing to engage in sexual activity.
She recounted that after she refused, Akhtar kicked her out of his car in the early hours of the morning, forcing her to walk for hours to get home.
This event highlights the level of coercion and intimidation she endured.
It is noteworthy that Akhtar is not new to the criminal justice system.
He is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence after being convicted in 2018 of sexual offences.
His earlier conviction was also linked to investigations under Operation Stovewood, emphasizing a pattern of predatory behavior.
