MOHAMED NURUL HAQUE SENTENCING DEFERRED IN SHETLAND FOR PUBLIC INDECENCY
Mohamed Nurul Haque, a 40-year-old man from Dorset, appeared before Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday regarding an incident at a Shetland swimming pool.Haque, residing at 23 Crane House, Verwood, pled guilty to a charge of public indecency that took place at the Clickimin Leisure Complex on 27 April 2010.
The court heard that Haque was alone in the steam room when he began masturbating.
Two receptionists observed his actions through a glass door and promptly alerted a male staff member, who then asked Haque to leave the premises.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie stated that Haque had told police he was attempting to alleviate pain caused by a sensitive condition.
However, Mackenzie emphasized that the primary purpose appeared to be self-pleasure, noting that there was a clear sexual component to the incident.
Sheriff Philipp Mann postponed sentencing until 25 August to allow for social enquiry reports, community service assessments, and a restriction of liberty evaluation.
A decision regarding whether Haque will be required to register as a sex offender will be made on the day of sentencing.
