MILLAN RAJASOORIAR FROM WORCESTER PARK SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN ASHTEAD

In a significant case that has shocked the local community, Millan Rajasooriar, a 34-year-old resident of Hampton Road in Worcester Park, was convicted and sentenced for attempting to engage in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl. The incident unfolded in Ashtead, where Rajasooriar traveled with the apparent intent of meeting the young girl for sex, only to be met and apprehended by police officers.

On October 26, during a court session at Guildford Crown Court, Rajasooriar pleaded guilty to two serious charges: one count of attempting to communicate sexually with a child and another of arranging or facilitating a child sex offence. The court subsequently sentenced him to two and a half years in prison, reflecting the gravity of his actions and the threat posed to the community.

The events leading to his arrest took place on October 28 of the previous year. Rajasooriar had traveled to Ashtead Train Station, where he believed he would meet a 13-year-old girl for sexual activity. However, his plans were thwarted when officers from the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit were waiting for him. The police had been conducting a proactive investigation into sexual offences involving minors, which had been initiated in October 2019 based on intelligence reports.

During the investigation, Rajasooriar had engaged in a series of sexually explicit messages via WhatsApp, which he believed were with a young girl. These messages were part of his attempt to arrange a meeting at the train station, where he intended to carry out the sexual act. His arrest was swift once he arrived at the station, and authorities seized his mobile phone for examination.

The analysis of Rajasooriar’s phone revealed disturbing evidence, including an indecent image of a child. As a result of his conviction, he was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. Additionally, a sexual harm prevention order was issued against him, aligning with the duration of his registration period, to prevent any further harm and protect potential victims in the future.
