CARLISLE MAN JAILED FOR LIFE IN BRUTAL MURDER OF EX-PARTNER
Miklos Verebes, 29 years old, has been found guilty of murdering his ex-partner Melinda Korosi in a violent attack and has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 28 years behind bars. The conviction was secured at Carlisle Crown Court, which heard that the murder took place on 15 September.
Evidence indicated that Verebes assaulted Ms Korosi at her home in Carlisle, where she lived with their two children.
At the scene, officers discovered a broken blood-stained rock with sharp edges.
Verebes denied that he was responsible for her death but was convicted of murder as well as three counts of rape committed between 2012 and 2016.
Witnesses reported seeing Verebes break into her house and hearing her scream during the attack.
When police took him into custody, he admitted to the killing, saying, “I know what I did.
I wanted to kill her,” but he also alleged that a stranger with a knife, who ran away before officers arrived, was to blame.
The jury found him guilty on all charges.
It was revealed that shortly before her death, Ms Korosi had informed police that Verebes had raped her and that she was in imminent danger of domestic violence.
The incident attracted widespread media coverage because of its brutality and Verebes’s history of abusive actions.
Her parents fondly described her as a talented musician and travel enthusiast, expressing their heartbreak that her life now seems 'empty and meaningless' after her death and criticizing Verebes for ending what was once a hopeful family life.
