MIHALY KOCSIS FROM SHELTON SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS FOR CHILD ABUSE AND FILMING IN DISTURBING CASE

In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Shelton, Mihaly Kocsis, a 59-year-old man of Hungarian nationality, has been sentenced to a seven-year prison term after being found guilty of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a young girl. The disturbing details of his offenses came to light during a police investigation that uncovered a trove of illicit material.

According to court records, Kocsis was first interviewed by authorities in December of the previous year. During the investigation, police raided his residence on Milton Street in Shelton, where they discovered a collection of incriminating evidence. Among the items seized were numerous videos, including footage that depicted Kocsis engaging in sexual acts with a girl. The videos showed the young victim either naked or partially clothed, and contained audio recordings of the abuse, further evidencing the severity of his crimes.

In addition to the videos, law enforcement officials found a significant number of indecent images—specifically, 1,944 photographs—and extreme pornographic material stored on Kocsis’s mobile phone and laptops. These materials underscored the extent of his involvement in the production and possession of illegal content.

When questioned by police, Kocsis was asked about the content on his devices and whether he had sexually abused the girl. Despite repeated inquiries, he chose to remain silent, refusing to comment on the allegations. His silence did not prevent the court from establishing his guilt, as evidence clearly demonstrated his involvement.

Throughout the legal proceedings, Kocsis, who had no prior criminal record or cautions, pleaded guilty to multiple charges. These included two counts of sexual activity with a child, four counts of making indecent photographs of children, and one count of possessing extreme pornographic images. His guilty plea was accepted by the court, and he expressed remorse through his legal representation, Liz Copper, who stated that Kocsis accepted responsibility for his actions.

Ms. Copper also highlighted the personal toll these crimes had taken on Kocsis, noting that he had lost his wife, his home, and his employment as a consequence of his actions. Despite his remorse, the judge, David Fletcher, emphasized the gravity of the offenses during sentencing. He confirmed that the images and videos were undoubtedly produced by Kocsis and described his conduct as a profound example of sexual deviance.

Judge Fletcher remarked that the case was particularly shocking, even to someone with his experience, and noted that if Kocsis had been charged with only one count, the sentence would have been six years. However, the production of the images and videos served as an aggravating factor, leading to the full seven-year term. The judge also expressed skepticism about Kocsis’s potential for rehabilitation but hoped that his time in custody might bring some change.

Furthermore, Kocsis was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, which has no specified end date, to restrict his future conduct and protect the community from further harm.
