MICHEAL SMEE FROM STEVENAGE SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR ABUSE IN CAMBRIDGE

In a case that has shocked the community of Stevenage and the surrounding Hertfordshire area, Micheal Smee, a 39-year-old man from Aylward Drive in Stevenage, has been handed down a severe prison sentence after being convicted of heinous sexual offenses involving a minor.

Following a trial at Cambridge Crown Court, Smee was found guilty of raping a boy under the age of 13. The crimes took place over a period stretching from January 2013 to April of the previous year. In addition to the conviction for rape, Smee pleaded guilty to five other counts related to sexual activity with a child, highlighting a pattern of disturbing behavior.

The court's judgment was clear and uncompromising. Smee was sentenced to 16 years in prison, with an additional eight years on extended licence. The judge emphasized the gravity of his actions and the threat he poses to society, especially to young boys. It was made explicitly clear that Smee must serve a minimum of 10 years before he becomes eligible for parole.

During the sentencing, the judge stated, “I am in no doubt whatsoever that you pose a significant risk to members of the public, particularly young boys. You are every parent’s nightmare.” This statement underscores the serious concern about Smee’s potential to reoffend and the danger he represents.

Furthermore, Smee will be registered on the Sex Offenders Register for life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities post-release. A Restraining Order has also been issued, prohibiting him from contacting his victim or any members of his family, ensuring their safety and peace of mind.

Detective Constable Zoe Maddison, who led the investigation, expressed her thoughts on the case. She highlighted how Smee exploited his trusted position as a PE teacher and football coach in Hertfordshire to groom and abuse his young victim over an extended period. She acknowledged the trust placed in Smee by the victim’s family and described their devastation upon learning of his crimes.

Detective Maddison also conveyed her hope that, with the support of professionals and the justice system, the victim can begin to rebuild his life after the trauma inflicted upon him. She praised the bravery of the young boy throughout the criminal proceedings, emphasizing the importance of his courage in bringing Smee to justice.
