BRISTOL TEENAGER MICHAELA MURCH AND CO-ACCUSED IN HORRIFIC SEXUAL AND VIOLENT ATTACK ON VULNERABLE BOY
In a disturbing series of events that unfolded over a 36-hour period, a vulnerable young boy was subjected to a brutal and degrading assault in Bristol, involving both physical violence and sexual abuse.The incident, which took place in April 2017, has shocked the local community and led to the conviction of 18-year-old Michaela Murch and her unnamed accomplice.
According to court proceedings, the ordeal began shortly after the boy visited St Michael's Hospital, located near Bristol city centre.
Following his visit, the boy was forcibly stripped of his clothes and made to run naked through the streets, an act captured on CCTV footage that was presented to the jury.
The footage showed the boy running towards the main shopping centre, flanked by Murch and her co-defendant, as concerned witnesses called the police.
After the police were alerted, the trio continued their disturbing conduct in a nearby park.
There, the two defendants inflicted further harm on the boy, including burning his leg with a lighter and extinguishing cigarettes on his feet.
The boy recounted that he was then taken to the Galleries shopping centre, where the assault took a more sinister turn.
A plastic bag was placed over his head in an attempt to suffocate him, adding a layer of danger and cruelty to the attack.
Throughout this ordeal, the defendants engaged in multiple acts of violence, including putting the boy in fear of violence, assaulting him causing actual bodily harm, and beating him.
The court heard that Murch and her accomplice had previously pleaded guilty to these charges, which included assault and causing fear of violence.
However, the sexual assault involving a toilet brush was denied by both defendants.
The boy claimed that it was Murch who carried out the sexual act, while she and her co-defendant maintained their innocence on this point.
During the trial, the prosecution, led by Richard Posner, emphasized the malicious intent behind the defendants' actions.
He stated, “Michaela and her co-defendant are accused of embarking on a course of conduct that was intended to harm their victim.
His vulnerability allowed them to manipulate a trust he had placed in them, and make him the subject of a degrading and intentionally humiliating attack.” Despite their denials of the sexual assault, both Murch and her co-defendant were convicted of multiple offences, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm and putting a person in fear of violence.
The court heard that the assault was deliberately prolonged and aimed at humiliating the young victim.
Murch, who was 18 at the time, was remanded in custody, with sentencing scheduled for January 8 at Bristol Crown Court, pending further reports.
The case has left a lasting impact on the community, highlighting the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals and ensuring justice is served for such heinous acts.
