MICHAEL WRIGHT FROM STAFFORD ESCAPES JAIL AFTER CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES

In August 2013, a man from Stafford named Michael Wright was involved in a case that drew significant attention due to the serious nature of his offenses involving child exploitation images. Despite being caught in the act of downloading indecent images and videos depicting children, Wright was ultimately spared a custodial sentence and received a community order from the court.

Authorities conducted a raid on Wright’s residence in Stafford after receiving crucial information from the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children. The police action was swift and targeted, with officers seizing computer equipment from Wright’s home. At the time of the raid, only Wright’s girlfriend was present in the house, and she was not charged in connection with the case.

Later that same day, Michael Wright contacted the police voluntarily and confessed that the illicit images stored on his computer belonged to him. His full admissions were recorded during subsequent police interviews, confirming his involvement in possessing and distributing child abuse material.

The digital evidence found on Wright’s computer included a total of 38 images. Most of these images were classified as the least serious category, level one, and depicted boys and girls aged between five and fifteen in sexualized situations. Additionally, police discovered 47 pornographic movies, with nine classified as level four and one as the most severe, level five. The most serious film showed two teenage girls, one of whom was tied up, highlighting the disturbing nature of the content.

The investigation further revealed that Wright had shared two of these movies via a Skype network. These particular videos, classified as level two, also depicted children aged between five and fifteen engaging in sexual activities. The sharing of such material underscored the extent of his involvement in distributing child abuse content.

Michael Wright, aged 32 and residing on Co-Operative Street in Stafford, faced multiple charges. He admitted to possessing indecent images and movies of children between September 2011 and December of the previous year. Additionally, he faced two charges related to the distribution of indecent movies.

In court, Wright was handed a three-year community order and was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next five years. His defense lawyer, Joanne Clark, emphasized that Wright had been honest with the police from the outset. She pointed out that although he lost his job following the revelations, he had since secured new employment in Coventry. Clark also noted that Wright’s girlfriend and family continued to support him despite the charges.

It was also highlighted that the two movies Wright shared via a file-sharing network were done without any financial gain, suggesting that his actions were not motivated by profit but still constituted serious criminal behavior.
