MICHAEL WRIGHT FROM ABINGDON FACES JUDGMENT OVER INDECENT IMAGES AT OXFORD CROWN COURT
In a case that has drawn significant attention, Michael Wright, a resident of Andersey Way in Abingdon, found himself in the dock at Oxford Crown Court, awaiting the outcome of his sentencing related to serious charges involving indecent images. The proceedings took place in March 2017, with Wright appearing visibly subdued, his head bowed as the court deliberated on his case.Wright, aged 50, was dressed in a checked shirt paired with a leather jacket during the hearing. Earlier in the month, he had pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including six counts of creating indecent images, one count of possessing such images of children, and an additional count involving an extreme pornographic image. These charges stem from a police investigation into the possession and creation of illicit material, which has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of minors and the broader community.
During the court session, Wright’s legal representative, Sophia Wood, requested a delay in the sentencing process. She explained that the probation service needed additional time to complete their report and to conduct a second interview with a psychiatrist, which could provide further insight into Wright’s mental state and circumstances. Judge Maria Lamb responded to the request, emphasizing the gravity of the case. She stated, “We are talking about a significant number of images here,” highlighting the seriousness of the charges.
Judge Lamb decided to adjourn the sentencing until April 21, allowing the probation service sufficient time to finalize their report. She made it clear that the court’s decision on the sentence would depend heavily on the information contained in this report. However, she also cautioned that the adjournment did not imply any predetermined outcome, and the court would carefully consider all evidence before reaching a verdict.
Following the hearing, Wright was released on conditional bail, pending his sentencing scheduled for that date. The case underscores ongoing concerns about the possession and distribution of indecent images and the importance of judicial processes in addressing such serious offenses. The community in Abingdon and beyond awaits the final judgment, which will be delivered at Oxford Crown Court on April 21.
