MICHAEL WRIGHT RETURNED TO JAIL IN LIVERPOOL AFTER POLICE FIND EXTREME PORNOGRAPHY COLLECTION

A child sex offender, Michael Wright, has been reimprisoned after police uncovered a stash of extreme pornography on his electronic devices.

Wright was caught deleting files from his laptop during a police visit to his residence.

The officers seized the device, discovering over 150 images depicting bestiality, along with Google searches for further depraved material.

Wright, 54, previously served a seven-year sentence after pleading guilty in 2016 to multiple child sexual offences, including three counts of rape.

At that time, he was living in Southport and was employed as an HGV driver.

He was released on license but was subject to a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which restricted his access to electronic devices and internet browsing unless his search history was recorded.

During the police visit in June 2021, Daniel Bramhall, prosecuting, explained that the officer believed Wright was attempting to obstruct the search effort.

Bramhall stated, "It's a bit of a mess.

Once inside, the officer found the flat clean and tidy and saw two laptops and a mobile phone on a coffee table.

One of the laptops was in use." When questioned about the devices, Wright claimed that the laptop being wiped did not belong to him but was instead for someone living downstairs.

He later said it was his and that he was erasing its contents to sell it.

Following this, Wright was arrested on suspicion of breaching his SHPO, and the laptops were seized.

The device with its memory being erased contained 169 images of extreme pornography involving animals, dating back to 2016.

Wright admitted, "I was addicted to pornography at the time; it was depraved." Wright was convicted of possessing extreme pornography and breaching his SHPO.

His defence lawyer, Gareth Roberts, told Liverpool Crown Court that Wright had been battling his personal issues over recent years.

Roberts explained, "In 2016, he was in the grip of a very insidious and quite terrible addiction to pornography.

That addiction devastated his life, but the images on his laptop were downloaded long before his conviction, and he has since worked hard to turn his life around." He added, "He wants to continue the process of rehabilitation." Judge Stuart Driver, QC, acknowledged that Wright was caught in the act of deleting his browsing history but found no evidence of recent illegal activity.

Since his arrest last summer, Wright has been in custody.

The judge sentenced him to an additional six months in jail.
