MICHAEL WATSON FROM LIVERPOOL CAUGHT WITH 7,000 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND SENDING LEWD MESSAGES TO TEEN
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Liverpool, Michael Watson, a 23-year-old man from Clifton Place, West Derby, was brought before Liverpool Crown Court following his arrest for possessing an alarming number of indecent images of children and engaging in online sexual communications with what he believed to be a minor.During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Watson had accumulated a staggering total of 6,625 indecent images of children on his electronic devices.
Among these, more than 500 were classified as Category A, which is considered the most severe category, depicting the rape or sexual torture of young children.
The sheer volume and severity of these images underscored the gravity of his offenses and the potential harm caused to victims.
Legal representatives for Watson, including his defense lawyer Jonathan Rogers, acknowledged his awareness of the wrongfulness of his actions.
Rogers stated in court that Watson admitted, “he knew what he was doing was wrong, but he couldn’t help it,” highlighting a possible acknowledgment of his compulsive behavior or underlying issues.
Watson’s criminal activities extended beyond mere possession.
He was charged with multiple offenses related to the online distribution and creation of indecent images of children.
The culmination of his misconduct was his attempt to engage in sexual communication with what he believed to be a 14-year-old boy.
Prosecutor Michael Stephenson detailed that Watson used a messaging application to contact the supposed teenager, who was later identified as a user on the Kik platform claiming to be a 14-year-old from Texas.
Stephenson explained that Watson’s interactions included requests for explicit photographs and the sending of his own genital images.
Additionally, Watson engaged in conversations with other online users, asking, “does anyone have any boy pics,” further demonstrating his predatory behavior and intent to seek out images of young boys.
Throughout the court session, Watson, dressed in a black jumper, appeared visibly distressed, staring at the floor and later wiping his eye as the details of his crimes were read aloud.
The seriousness of his actions was underscored by Judge Robert Warnock, who emphasized the high risk Watson posed to children.
The judge stated, “You certainly pose a high risk to children.
You must understand that the possession and distribution of images repeats the harm of this child.
It promotes the spread of images and subsequently distribution of young, abused children.” Further investigations revealed that officers had identified a Dropbox account linked to Watson, which was suspected of being used for the distribution of illicit images.
This led to a search of Watson’s residence, where multiple electronic devices were seized.
The police found numerous disturbing images, primarily stored on his laptop.
When questioned, Watson did not deny his involvement, telling officers, “there was no point denying it.” In court, Watson pleaded guilty to ten charges, including possession, making, and distribution of indecent images, as well as communicating sexually with a person under 16.
Recognizing the severity of his crimes, the court sentenced him to two years in prison and imposed a sexual harm prevention order to restrict his future conduct and protect potential victims from further harm.
