CAMBRIDGE BUILDER MICHAEL TWINN SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS

In a case that has shocked the community of Cambridge, a former local builder named Michael Twinn has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing two young girls over a span of more than two decades.

Twinn, aged 55 and residing on Galfrid Road in Cambridge, maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings. He was convicted by a jury at Cambridge Crown Court earlier this month on five separate sex offense charges. Despite his protests, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him of these serious crimes.

The sentencing hearing revealed that Twinn received an 18-month prison term for three separate sexual assaults committed against a girl when she was between nine and 14 years old during the 1980s. These assaults were described as isolated incidents, but they left a lasting impact on the victim’s life. Additionally, Twinn was sentenced to an extra two years, to be served consecutively, for indecent acts committed against another girl in 2001 and 2002, when she was only 10 and 11 years old.

Throughout the trial, Twinn continued to deny the allegations, claiming that both girls, one of whom is now in her 30s, were lying about the incidents. The judge, Jonathan Haworth, acknowledged that the abuse appeared to be isolated episodes rather than a pattern of persistent indecency over many years. However, he noted that the case was a disturbing example of history repeating itself.

Judge Haworth emphasized the profound and lasting effects of Twinn’s actions on the victims. He stated, “For more than 20 years, one of the girls you abused lived with what you had done, and it has affected her entire life. She has struggled to form relationships, and it is clear that your actions have had a significant and enduring impact on her.”

The judge also highlighted the importance of swift action by the mother of the second girl, whose timely response prevented further harm. “It is only fortunate that the girl’s mother reacted quickly when the complaint was first made,” he said.

As part of his sentence, Twinn was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register upon his release from prison. Furthermore, he was banned from working with children indefinitely, reflecting the serious nature of his offenses and the need to protect vulnerable individuals from potential harm in the future.
