MICHAEL SMALLBONE FROM CARLISLE JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES
In a significant case that has shocked the local community of Carlisle, a 69-year-old man named Michael Smallbone has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of possessing and creating indecent images of children. The incident came to light earlier this year when police executed a search warrant at his residence on Hartington Place, Carlisle.
During the police raid, authorities seized multiple electronic devices, which upon forensic analysis revealed a disturbing collection of illegal material.
Investigators uncovered a total of 618 illicit images, with more than half of these having been deleted prior to the seizure, indicating an attempt to conceal the material.
The images included both photographs and videos depicting children in sexually explicit situations.
At Carlisle Crown Court, the prosecution presented evidence that Smallbone had admitted to three counts of making indecent photographs of children, along with a charge of possession.
The court was informed that among the images, 131 still photographs and 30 videos were classified as Category A, signifying the most severe level of illegal content.
The ages of the children depicted ranged from infants to children as old as ten years old, with the majority being young girls.
Further details revealed that Smallbone, who resides on Hartington Place in Carlisle, had a prior conviction related to child pornography in 2003.
This history underscored the seriousness of his current offenses and his pattern of offending behavior.
In delivering the sentence, Judge Peter Davies sentenced Smallbone to 16 months in prison.
The judge emphasized the gravity of the case, stating, “You are a determined offender and you will go to prison.” Additionally, Smallbone was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register and to comply with a sexual harm prevention order, both of which are to remain in effect indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to prevent further offenses.
