HORRIFIC PAEDOPHILE MICHAEL SAWYERS FROM HULL SENTENCED FOR PREDATORY OFFENSES
In a case that has shocked the community of Hull, Michael Edward Sawyers, a 21-year-old man, has been sentenced to an indefinite prison term after being found guilty of multiple serious offenses involving children. The crimes, which took place in Hull and its surrounding areas, highlight the dangerous and predatory nature of Sawyers' actions.
On February 2007, during a hearing at Hull Crown Court, Mr.
Justice Openshaw described Sawyers as an "aggressive and predatory" individual, emphasizing the high risk he poses to the safety of children.
The court heard that Sawyers was responsible for four separate offenses involving minors, including two counts of child abduction, one count of attempted abduction, and one count of sexual assault on a child under the age of 13.
Judge Openshaw sentenced Sawyers to serve an indefinite period in prison, although he noted that Sawyers would be eligible for parole after three years.
Additionally, the court mandated that Sawyers be registered on the Sex Offenders Register, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he presents.
The incidents leading to his conviction began on November 24 of the previous year, when Sawyers approached two young girls, aged 11 and 13, as they were walking in Bilsdale Grove, located in east Hull.
He engaged them in conversation, claiming to work at Hull College, and told them he could help them skip their school lessons to attend college for the day.
Using his mobile phone, he pretended to make a call to Hull College, further convincing the girls of his story.
Taking advantage of their trust, Sawyers then led the girls to a secluded grassy area where he sexually assaulted the 11-year-old girl.
This disturbing act was part of a series of predatory behaviors that demonstrated his dangerous intent.
Earlier, on November 11, Sawyers had attempted to abduct a 10-year-old girl.
He approached her and her mother, claiming he was employed by Hull College and that he wanted to take the girl out of her lessons, which she reportedly disliked, to engage in more interesting activities at college.
It was later revealed that Sawyers had obtained the 10-year-old’s phone number after approaching her on the street a few days prior, where he used a similar story to gain her trust.
He arranged to pick up the young girl in Preston Road, east Hull.
However, the victim’s mother grew suspicious of his intentions and contacted the police, leading to his arrest on November 25.
Sawyers subsequently pleaded guilty to all four charges at Hull Magistrates Court on November 27, confirming his involvement in these disturbing incidents.
The case underscores the ongoing concerns about child safety in Hull and the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts to prevent such predatory behavior.
Sawyers’ sentencing aims to protect the community and serve as a stark warning to others who might consider similar actions.
