HUDDERSFIELD MAN MICHAEL RYAN IN COURT AFTER HARASSING HIS FORMER PARTNER WITH ABUSIVE TEXTS
A Skelmanthorpe man has appeared in court after harassing his former partner with abusive texts.Michael Ryan, of Manor Rise, pleaded guilty to the charge at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.
It was the 29-year-old’s second harassment conviction in less than two months.
Magistrates heard that the victim on both occasions was Zara Hunt, Ryan’s former partner of three years.
Prosecutor Linda Fowler said that the couple, who have a young son together, split up in April 2011.
She said: “Ms Hunt says that the defendant started posting messages in 2013 on Facebook and sending threatening text messages towards her.
“As a result the defendant was reported to police and received a harassment warning.” In June the same year Ryan was cautioned over similar behaviour.
Ms Hunt said that everything went quiet until October when the abusive texts started again and she called police.
Mrs Fowler said: “When police visited Ms Hunt she said that she was scared of making a formal complaint.
“Then her sister received a message.
It was a picture of the defendant holding a clenched fist.” Upset by the threatening nature of the words written in text underneath Ms Hunt called police.
She was also upset by the public nature of a comment posted by Ryan on Facebook in which he talked about being taken away from his son.
On January 2 Ryan was convicted at the court following his harassment of his ex on later dates.
He was sentenced to a 12-month community order and banned from contacting Ms Hunt via a restraining order.
Magistrates on Wednesday gave him a new community order to run alongside his existing order.
This will include 60 hours of unpaid work.
