MICHAEL ROGERS CAUGHT IN NOTTINGHAM SEX OFFENDER SCANDAL AFTER ONLINE PLEA FOR CHILD'S IMAGES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Nottingham community, Michael Rogers, aged 26, was brought to justice after engaging in a series of alarming online interactions with an undercover police officer. The incident unfolded in July 2019, when Rogers initiated a conversation with an officer who was posing as a 12-year-old boy.
During their digital exchange, Rogers displayed predatory behavior by asking the officer to send him sexually explicit photographs, believing he was communicating with a minor.
Following the conversation, Nottinghamshire Police’s Paedophile Online Investigation team swiftly acted to apprehend Rogers.
They arrested him at his residence on Valeside Gardens, Colwick, and conducted a thorough search of his electronic devices.
The investigation uncovered a disturbing collection of approximately 70 indecent images of children stored on his devices.
Among these, ten images were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of sexual abuse material involving children.
During police interviews, Rogers claimed that his initial message was sent out of curiosity, and he expressed immediate regret for his actions.
However, his explanations did little to mitigate the severity of the charges he faced.
He was formally charged with attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child, possessing indecent images of children, and making a prohibited image of a child by saving explicit material onto his electronic devices.
Rogers appeared before Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, 9 March, where he was sentenced to a two-year community order.
As part of his sentence, he is required to attend 60 rehabilitation sessions aimed at addressing his behavior.
Additionally, he will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for five years, which will impose strict restrictions on his online activities and grant authorities the authority to conduct regular checks on his behavior.
To further ensure public safety, Rogers has also been placed on the sexual offences register for a period of five years, marking a significant step in monitoring his conduct and preventing future offenses.
