BRISTOL RAPIST MICHAEL MURRAY SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR ATTACK ON TEENAGE GIRL IN EASTON
In a recent case that has sent shockwaves through the Bristol community, Michael Murray, a 29-year-old man with no fixed address, has been sentenced to nine years in prison following a brutal assault on a teenage girl in the Easton district. The incident occurred on 9 January along Stapleton Road, a busy thoroughfare in the Bristol area, where Murray followed his young victim after she disembarked from a bus.
According to court records, Murray then proceeded to attack the girl in a violent and predatory manner.
The victim was able to provide authorities with a detailed description of her attacker, which proved instrumental in the subsequent investigation.
Using CCTV footage captured in the vicinity at the time of the assault, Avon and Somerset Police were able to identify and locate Murray, leading to his arrest.
During his court appearance via video-link at Bristol Crown Court on 7 April, Murray pleaded guilty to charges of rape and a separate count of common assault.
The assault on the second victim involved Murray hitting her with a cigarette lighter after she rejected his advances.
For this second incident, he received a concurrent four-month prison sentence.
Murray’s sentencing also included the imposition of indefinite restraining orders protecting both victims from any contact or harassment.
Additionally, he will remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
Det Sgt Stuart Toms commented on the case, emphasizing the threat Murray posed: “Murray posed a significant risk to women, particularly teenage girls.
It is reassuring to know that he will now be incarcerated for a lengthy period of time.” He further noted that sexual assaults by strangers are relatively rare in Avon and Somerset, but when such crimes occur, law enforcement agencies are committed to identifying the offenders and ensuring they face justice.
This case highlights the importance of community vigilance and the effectiveness of CCTV in solving serious crimes, providing a measure of reassurance to residents of Bristol that justice has been served in this troubling case.
