MICHAEL MCLELLAN SENTENCED IN PERTH FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT ON PARTNER
A 51-year-old man named Michael McLellan has been sentenced to three years in prison following his conviction for a violent assault against his partner, Shona McGregor, in Perth. The incident took place on May 5, 2019, at a flat located on Low Street in Perth, where McLellan carried out a vicious attack that left McGregor with a severe head injury.
During the assault, McLellan used a metal vacuum handle as a weapon, striking her twice with force.
The blows resulted in a significant head wound that bled heavily, necessitating urgent medical attention.
McGregor was subsequently taken to hospital, where she received treatment that included four stitches under local anesthesia to close the wound.
Prior to the sentencing, McLellan had already pleaded guilty to an amended charge related to the incident.
He admitted that his actions were both regrettable and reprehensible.
The court proceedings revealed that the original charges included a more severe account of the assault, which involved McLellan pursuing Ms.
McGregor down a flight of stairs, grabbing her by the throat, pinning her against a wall, restricting her breathing, and repeatedly punching her.
However, this part of the case was ultimately dropped from the charges.
Additionally, McLellan did not contest a second charge that involved shouting, swearing, making derogatory remarks, and throwing household items during the altercation.
The Perth Sheriff Court also imposed a 12-month supervised release order on McLellan, aimed at safeguarding the community from further serious harm.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis, presiding over the case, emphasized that given McLellan’s history of violent convictions in both Scotland and England, the only suitable punishment was incarceration.
The judge highlighted the importance of protecting the public from individuals with a violent past.
The case also shed light on McLellan’s personal circumstances, revealing that his brother had recently died while he was on remand, and his father had passed away in 2008 while serving a previous sentence.
The incident was reportedly linked to ongoing tensions related to the care of McLellan’s seriously ill brother, which may have contributed to the emotional and psychological context surrounding the assault.
