MICHAEL MCGLYNN SENTENCED IN READING FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a case that has shocked the community of Reading, a man named Michael McGlynn has been sentenced to serve time in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting a young girl. The assault, which took place during the summer of 2020 in Earley, Reading, involved inappropriate touching of a girl who was only 12 years old at the time.
The incident has left a deep and lasting impact on the victim, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons.
Michael McGlynn, aged 47 and residing on Kingston Road in Camberley, was found guilty by a jury at Reading Crown Court last month.
The court heard that he committed two separate counts of assaulting a girl under the age of 13 by means of touching.
The trial revealed the disturbing details of the incidents, which have caused significant psychological trauma to the young girl involved.
Judge Kirsty Real handed down the sentence, sentencing McGlynn to a total of 30 months in prison for the first count and an additional nine months for the second count.
These sentences are to be served concurrently, meaning he will serve only the longer of the two durations.
The judge also ordered that McGlynn serve half of his sentence before being eligible for release on licence, a form of supervised parole.
Furthermore, he will be required to register as a sex offender, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities post-release.
Notably, no sexual harm prevention order was issued in this case.
During the sentencing hearing, the court was presented with a victim impact statement from the girl’s parents, read out by prosecutor Brian Reece.
The statement vividly described the profound effect the assault has had on their daughter and their family.
The parents expressed their concern over the lasting psychological scars, noting how the incident has altered her personality and caused a ripple effect of trauma that extends beyond the immediate victim.
“You can see the impact it’s had on her personality.
The ripple effect has caused real psychological harm far beyond those directly involved,” the statement read.
The parents also shared their ongoing struggles, including sleepless nights, nightmares, and feelings of guilt for not being able to protect their daughter better.
They praised her bravery, emphasizing that she should have been able to trust the adults around her.
A second statement highlighted the girl’s ongoing difficulties, including struggles at school due to flashbacks and panic attacks.
Her parents revealed that she now harbors a distrust of men, which they described as particularly heartbreaking.
The incident has not only affected her but has also taken a toll on her entire family.
The mother expressed her heartbreak, saying, “She has told me she feels guilty that she never said no, and it breaks my heart.” The case underscores the devastating impact of such crimes on young victims and their families, and the community’s concern over safeguarding children from such harm.
