MICHAEL LORD FROM PRESTON CAUGHT TRYING TO MEET UNDERAGE GIRLS IN DISTURBING ONLINE PLOT

In August 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving a man from Preston who sought to exploit vulnerable underage girls he had befriended through online platforms.

Michael Lord, aged 40 and described as having no fixed abode, was found guilty of serious criminal offenses related to his online activities and was subsequently sentenced to a significant prison term.

Preston Crown Court heard that Lord had engaged in a pattern of deceit and predatory behavior.

He admitted to probation officers that he had lied about his age in order to gain access to teenage chat rooms on the internet.

His primary aim appeared to be forming connections with girls who were struggling with issues such as self-harm and suicidal thoughts, making them particularly vulnerable to exploitation.

Over the course of their online interactions, Lord befriended two young girls, engaging them in sexualized conversations and exchanging indecent photographs.

These exchanges included explicit images, which he kept as part of his illicit collection.

The conversations revealed that Lord had made plans to meet one of the girls in Leeds, with the intention of carrying out a sexual offence.

He also intended to meet the second girl, although these meetings never materialized.

Prosecutor Peter Barr presented evidence from the chat records, which clearly demonstrated Lord’s intentions to meet the girls in person.

Despite the detailed plans, the acts were ultimately thwarted, and no physical meetings took place.

Nevertheless, the court was told that Lord’s actions posed a significant risk to the safety of minors.

Judge Andrew Woolman described Lord as a dangerous offender, emphasizing the seriousness of his conduct.

He stated, “I find you to be a dangerous offender.

Your pre-sentence report indicates that you are a risk.” However, due to sentencing guidelines, the court was unable to impose an extended sentence, despite the gravity of the crimes committed.

Michael Lord’s case highlights the ongoing dangers posed by online predators and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable children from exploitation and harm.
