A teenage girl who was the victim of a sexual assault received praise from a judge during the sentencing of the man responsible for her attack.
The young witness was required to testify before a jury in the case against Jonathon Wignall at Preston Crown Court.
During the sentencing hearing last week, Judge Graham Knowles KC acknowledged the girl’s bravery and confidence in her testimony, praising her conduct during her evidence presentation.
At the time of the assault in 2023, she was 15 years old when Wignall assaulted her at a residence in Preston.
Jonathon Wignall, 35, of Stocks Road, Preston, was convicted after a trial in February of engaging in sexual activity with a minor and participating in sexual acts in front of a child.
In the sentencing last Thursday (March 26), he was sentenced to four years and six months in prison, placed under a 20-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and required to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
