On 23 March 2016, Michael Hurley was tried at Liverpool Crown Court before HHJ Goldstone KC and a jury.
He was found guilty of two charges under the Sexual Offences Act 2003: one of assault by penetration and another of rape.
Hurley received a sentence of seven years in prison.
His subsequent attempt to seek permission to appeal the convictions was rejected by the court in 2018.
Two years later, in 2020, he submitted an application to the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) which was dismissed.
A third appeal was ultimately dismissed on 16 May 2025.
