2001: WORCESTER MAN JAILED FOR GLASS ATTACK ON GIRLFRIEND
A man from Worcester has received a 15-month prison sentence after assaulting his girlfriend in a drunken outburst caused by her refusal to give him extra money for alcohol.During the hearing at Worcester Crown Court, it was revealed that 27-year-old Michael Dutfield had previously faced charges related to violence against women.
Dutfield pleaded guilty to assaulting Barbara Finch, which resulted in actual bodily harm.
Prosecutor Samantha Crabb explained that Dutfield was in a relationship with Miss Finch and had been drinking heavily with a male friend.
She left their shared flat early in the morning after Dutfield went to buy 12 cans of lager.
Dutfield continued drinking at a local pub and later returned to the flat in the afternoon, where he demanded additional money from Miss Finch.
When she declined, he pushed a glass into her face, causing a cut that required four stitches.
Police later located Dutfield hiding in an adjacent flat, but the glass used in the assault could not be recovered.
Dutfield acknowledged losing his temper but denied intentionally pushing the glass into her face.
Judge Marten Coates noted that it was fortunate Miss Finch's injuries were not more severe and highlighted Dutfield’s history of violence, including previous attacks on women and using a glass in one instance.
