BRISTOL DOCTOR MICHAEL CHONGKEE LOK CAUGHT FILMING BOY AND MEN IN PUBLIC SHOWER ROOMS

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Bristol, Dr.

Michael Chongkee Lok, a medical professional based in Kingswood, was sentenced for his involvement in filming minors and adult men in vulnerable situations.

The incident came to light after a 15-year-old boy, who was using the changing facilities at a sports hall, noticed the doctor secretly taking photographs of him with an iPhone while he was showering.

The young teenager, feeling alarmed and disturbed by the sight, immediately alerted staff members present at the facility.

The staff responded swiftly by notifying the police, leading to Lok’s quick identification and subsequent arrest.

During police questioning, the 50-year-old doctor admitted to taking images of the boy, as well as several other men, over the course of approximately one month.

He confessed that he found these individuals attractive and that his actions were driven by personal gratification.

Investigations revealed that Lok possessed more than 20 images, which included photographs of naked male adults and a child, all taken in the changing rooms of the sports hall.

The police also uncovered that Lok had been prowling the changing areas at Bath University Sports Village in Bath, where he continued to take pictures of men showering, further demonstrating a pattern of voyeuristic behavior.

At Bristol Crown Court, Lok faced multiple charges, including one count of making indecent images of a child and seven counts of voyeurism.

The prosecution, led by Paul Ricketts, detailed how the defendant had been observed sitting fully clothed in the changing room, secretly capturing images of a boy using his phone.

The court heard that there was no partition separating the boy from Lok, who was sitting nearby, fully clothed, while taking photographs.

Judge Michael Roach delivered a stern judgment, condemning Lok’s actions and emphasizing the damage caused to the victims and their families.

The judge stated, “You have let yourself and your profession very badly down by what you have done.

Spare a thought for the family of the young boy you photographed.

Think how upsetting it would be for them to have their son photographed in that way as you did on that date in December.

It is thoroughly unacceptable.” He also condemned the act of photographing other males in changing rooms, asserting that such behavior undermines the safety and trust that individuals expect in these private spaces.

Lok was sentenced to a three-year community order, required to participate in a 40-day sex offender treatment program, and mandated to register as a sex offender for five years.

Additionally, he was issued a sexual offences prevention order that prohibits him from possessing any camera equipment when in public areas where people are changing.

Defense lawyer Iain Kelcey argued that Lok was experiencing a difficult period in his life due to a relationship breakdown, which may have contributed to his actions.

However, the court’s focus remained on the severity of the misconduct and its impact on the victims.

Outside the court, Detective Inspector Mike Williams from the public protection unit commented on the case, stating, “This incident highlights the lengths that Michael Lok went to to gratify his own needs.

His victims were unaware they had been filmed and violated in this way.” The incident has also led to Lok’s suspension from his role as an accident and emergency doctor, reflecting the serious professional and personal repercussions of his actions.
