MICHAEL BRADY AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULT IN WARRINGTON
Michael Brady, a 41-year-old DJ from Dallam, Warrington, has been formally sentenced to four years in prison following a series of deeply disturbing criminal acts. The court proceedings unfolded at Liverpool Crown Court, where the gravity of Brady’s actions was thoroughly examined and met with severe legal consequences.
The case revealed that Brady engaged in a pattern of sexual misconduct over several months leading up to a particularly heinous incident in the early hours of a Friday morning in February 2017.
It was alleged that during this period, Brady sexually assaulted a young woman multiple times, with the number potentially reaching ten or eleven separate instances.
On one of these occasions, he assaulted her while she was asleep.
The assault was carried out without her consent and in an especially invasive manner.
Adding further to his misconduct, Brady was found to have accessed his victim’s mobile phone without permission.
During this unauthorized access, he emailed himself explicit photographs and videos of the woman, compounding the gravity of his betrayal and violation of privacy.
In an effort to conceal his actions, Brady took the additional step of deleting the videos he had recorded during the assault, attempting to cover his tracks.
Despite these efforts, the evidence against him was substantial enough to lead to his conviction.
The victim, visibly distressed, was present during the sentencing hearing and delivered a heartfelt, tearful statement.
She described how the traumatic incident had profoundly impacted her mental health and overall well-being.
Her words conveyed the depth of her suffering, as she revealed that her confidence had vanished and she now feels lost and broken.
The woman spoke of her constant feelings of anxiety, recounting that she becomes nervous even at the sound of a knock at her door.
Her mental health struggles have worsened to the extent that she has been diagnosed with depression and anxiety, and she has had ongoing sleep disturbances.
The trauma inflicted upon her was so severe that she made a previous attempt to take her own life.
Throughout the proceedings, Brady maintained a demeanor of shame, bowing his head as his victim detailed the devastating effects his actions had wrought upon her.
The court heard her express that she struggles daily with the emotional fallout of the assault, feeling a sense of loss for her former self and a sense of betrayal by someone she once trusted.
Her statement underscored her profound sense of injustice, questioning why Brady had committed such acts and expressing her feeling that he had “broken” her.
Legal representations for Brady, in the form of barrister James Coutts, acknowledged his client’s remorse, describing him as “ashamed and bitterly regrets” his misconduct.
However, the judge, Thomas Teague, sharply criticized Brady’s lack of insight and remorse, highlighting his attempt to destroy evidence by deleting videos and attributing his actions to alcohol influence—an explanation the judge considered inadequate.
Judge Teague emphasized that Brady had demonstrated no genuine remorse and showed little understanding of the harm caused.
The judge also pointed out that Brady had a history of prior convictions, emphasizing the importance of his sentence.
As part of the court’s ruling, Brady was subject to a permanent restraining order preventing any contact with his victim, and he was also required to fulfill a lifelong notification obligation.
Additionally, Brady was ordered to pay a victim surcharge as part of his sentence.
Responding to the case, Police Constable Nicola Halliwell remarked on the lack of remorse shown by Brady, noting that his guilty plea spared the victim from the stress of a trial.
She praised the resilience of the young woman, who demonstrated patience, dignity, and strength throughout the investigation process, describing her as “extremely proud of herself.” PC Halliwell expressed hope that the outcome of the case would serve to help her on the path towards healing and closure, allowing her to begin rebuilding her life after such a traumatic chapter.
