MICHAEL BEDNASKI FROM DUDLEY AND STOURBRIDGE JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON TEENAGE GIRLS IN DUDLEY AND LIVERPOOL

In a case that has shocked the local communities of Dudley and Stourbridge, Michael Bednarski, a nurse with connections to both towns, has been sentenced to prison for committing sexual assaults on two young girls aged just 15 years old. The incidents occurred over a span of four years, with the first attack taking place at a hospital in Liverpool and the second at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley.

Bednarski, aged 30 and residing in Amblecote, Stourbridge, appeared before Wolverhampton Crown Court to face justice. The court heard that he had carried out the first assault in 2008 while he was still a student nurse. During that time, he falsely claimed that his actions were part of a legitimate medical procedure, attempting to cover his tracks and deceive those around him. Despite his efforts, the court was informed that the attack was a clear breach of trust and a gross violation of professional ethics.

Four years later, in 2012, Bednarski committed another sexual assault while working as a qualified nursing assistant at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley. The victim, a teenage girl, became increasingly concerned about the attention she was receiving from him, which prompted her to report the incident. Her courage in coming forward was a crucial element in bringing Bednarski to justice.

Prosecutor Benjamin Close detailed the impact of the assaults on the victims, emphasizing that both had been profoundly affected by the traumatic experiences. The court was told that Bednarski entered the courtroom on crutches, a detail that drew attention to his physical condition during the proceedings.

During the hearing, Bednarski pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual assault. The judge, Martin Walsh, described the attacks as “gratuitous” and highlighted that they represented a severe breach of the trust placed in medical professionals. In his sentencing, Judge Walsh ordered Bednarski to register as a sex offender indefinitely and imposed a sexual offender protection order that will remain in effect for ten years.

Gerry Bermingham, representing Bednarski, acknowledged the gravity of his client’s actions, describing them as “stupid” and expressing regret. Bermingham stated that Bednarski had taken a long time to come to terms with what he had done but had issued a sincere apology. He also emphasized that Bednarski was a man with complex and multiple problems, asserting that he would never work in the medical field again and posed no danger to others moving forward.

As the court proceedings concluded, Bednarski showed no visible emotion as he was led away to begin his sentence, leaving a somber atmosphere in the courtroom and raising questions about the impact of his actions on the victims and the wider community.
