MICHAEL BATTY AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ABUSE IN EXETER AND NORTH YORKSHIRE

A man identified as Michael Batty has been sentenced to eight years in prison after committing disturbing acts of sexual abuse involving young girls. The incident, which took place in North Yorkshire, remained hidden for several years before coming to light through the courage of one of the victims.

Michael Batty, aged 44 and employed at Ikea, targeted two young girls with inappropriate and illegal sexual conduct. He instructed them to keep quiet about the abuse, attempting to silence their voices and prevent any suspicion from arising. The heinous acts were only uncovered after one of the girls confided in her mother, revealing that Batty had touched her inappropriately. The girl described her experience by saying, "He just made me do stuff that just wasn't right."

Following this disclosure, authorities approached the second girl, who initially denied any wrongdoing. However, she later disclosed details of the abuse she had suffered at Batty’s hands. The case was brought before Teesside Crown Court, where the impact on the victims was clearly articulated. One of the victims issued a powerful statement, expressing her feelings about the trauma inflicted upon her. She stated, "I hope today you feel the guilt that you made me feel. You took away my innocence in a way no one ever should. You have no control over me anymore, and now everyone will see who you really are."

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Batty’s background included a report suggesting he had a high likelihood of having ADHD and a below-average IQ of 74. Despite these factors, the court emphasized that Batty had led a relatively simple and unremarkable life, and he was unable to provide a clear explanation for his actions.

Batty, who resides on Milford Lane, Thorverton, Devon, pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault of a child and five counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. However, he denied additional charges, including an attempt to rape a child and causing a child to watch a sexual act. The prosecution agreed that these particular charges should be left on file, meaning they would not be pursued further in court.
