LIVERPOOL DAD PLEADS GUILTY TO MANSLAUGHTER OF INFANT SON
A man named Mehmet Tufan was involved in a tragic case where he inflicted severe injuries on his five-week-old son, Leo.Tufan, of Kirkby, Liverpool, violently shook the baby in a jealous rage while his partner was out for the night.
The incident resulted in catastrophic injuries, including blindness and brain damage, and ultimately led to Leo's death at age four.
The court heard that Tufan initially claimed to have found a hair in the baby’s throat, but medical evidence suggested the injuries were caused by forceful shaking.
Prosecutors portrayed Tufan as acting out of frustration and anger, with messages exchanged with the baby's mother indicating his increasing frustration that night.
Tufan admitted to inflicting grievous bodily harm and pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
During the court proceedings, he became emotional and tearful, recognizing the devastating consequences of his actions.
He was initially sentenced in 2019 to two years, but the sentence was postponed for further consideration, and he faces a new sentencing scheduled for September 2.
