HUDDERSFIELD TEEN SENTENCED FOR HEAD-STABBING RELATIVE IN FAMILY ROW
A young offender named Maven Jay Coupe was sentenced after injuring his uncle in a family dispute.
The event occurred in Huddersfield in July last year, when Coupe, then 19, watched his uncle push his mother during an argument.
In retaliation, he took a knife and stabbed his uncle in the head.
The court heard that Coupe had previously wielded a weapon on two other occasions within the past year.
One instance involved attacking a boy after being chased through the streets with a frying pan and a plank of wood, while another involved damaging a car with a machete while shouting violent threats.
The judge during sentencing described Coupe’s actions as furious and hazardous, highlighting his history of violence and substance abuse, and stated that his upbringing did not serve as a mitigating factor.
Convicted on charges including grievous bodily harm, possessing an offensive weapon, criminal damage, and affray, Coupe was sentenced to six years and four months in a Young Offenders' Institution, along with a three-year extended license period.
The court also recognized his mental health issues, past traumas, and the improvements he had shown during his time in custody.
