2014: QUARRY BANK MAN JAILED FOR NINE MONTHS AFTER ASSAULTING HIS PARTNER
A 22-YEAR-OLD Quarry Bank man who grabbed his vulnerable former partner by the hair and dragged her along the ground before threatening to stab her with a craft knife has been jailed.Matthew Webb, of Anne Road, was sentenced to nine months in prison after he admitted assault causing actual bodily harm, common assault, and possessing the knife.
Recorder Edward Hess at Wolverhampton Crown Court told him, "What you did was disgraceful.
You should be utterly ashamed of what you did." Webb had launched one attack on his ex-girlfriend before going back to assault her for a second time, adding: "You then used a Stanley knife which is an aggravating feature of the case." Prosecutor Paul Reid said Webb had been in a relationship with the woman and they lived together at her Dudley home.
After an argument, he pushed her to the floor, causing bruising to her forehead and arm.
Webb then grabbed her from behind by the hair and pulled her along the ground.
Later the same day, he grabbed her by the hair again and dragged her, causing grazing, and threatened to stab her.
The woman, a mother-of-three, sustained a cut to a finger as she struggled with Webb, who was later described as a "Jekyll and Hyde" character.
Defender Gurdeep Garcha acknowledged Webb's disgraceful behaviour, stating he understood there was no excuse, and it was an ongoing episode of domestic violence.
However, the judge felt only immediate jail was appropriate for the crimes.
