QUARRY BANK MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER POSSESSING 1,500 INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
A MAN who was caught watching pornography in a popular shopping centre and later found to be in possession of more than 1,500 indecent images of children has been spared jail.
Christopher Amyes pleaded guilty to four counts of making indecent photographs/pseudo-photographs of a child over a three-year period between February 8, 2020 and June 11, 2023, at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court in July.
According to The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), police officers were alerted to Amyes viewing pornography in a public space inside the Merry Hill Shopping Centre.
The 67-year-old was subsequently arrested, and two mobile phones were seized from him.
After forensic analysis of the phones, they were found to have contained more than 1,500 indecent images of children, including two Category A images, 5 Category B images and 1,582 Category C images.
Following Amyes’ arrest, officers seized a further 15 mobile phones, a USB stick and a SIM card as part of a Section 18 search.
During a police interview, he admitted to possessing indecent images of children.
On Wednesday (August 13) at Wolverhampton Crown Court, Amyes, of Victoria Road, Quarry Bank, was handed a nine-month sentence, which was suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to carry out 55 rehabilitation activity requirements (RAR) days, made subject of a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and was told he must adhere to the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders Act 2003.
A deprivation order was issued for the devices.
