MATTHEW VANDROSS AND HIS HORRIFIC CRIMES IN SWINDON
A man residing in Swindon has been convicted of multiple heinous crimes involving the sexual assault of a young girl, describing the ordeal as both 'horrific' and 'traumatic.' Matthew Vandross, aged 30 and living on Homington Avenue, was found guilty by a jury after a five-day trial held at Salisbury Crown Court.The charges against him include four counts of raping a child under the age of 13, along with 21 counts of digital penetration and sexual assault by touching.
The criminal acts took place over a period spanning from October 2020 to May 2021.
According to Wiltshire Police, the victim was under 10 years old when she first reported the abuse.
She was accompanied by a friend who had witnessed some of the distressing events and provided crucial testimony during the investigation.
Detective Constable Mel Neal, a member of the Child Abuse Investigation Team, described Vandross’s actions as having been carried out in the 'worst and most horrific way.' DC Neal also paid tribute to the resilience and bravery of the two young girls involved in the case.
Despite the trauma they endured, both showed remarkable courage in coming forward and sharing their experiences.
She emphasized the department’s commitment to protecting victims and seeking justice, stating, 'Working within the Child Abuse Investigation Team, we come to work every day to protect people like these two girls and secure some form of justice for them.' Vandross is scheduled to be sentenced on November 15.
The investigation was supported by various partner agencies, ensuring that the victims received the necessary support and safeguarding measures.
DC Neal highlighted the predatory nature of Vandross, noting that he exploited a vulnerable child and threatened her with horrific consequences if she dared to report the abuse to authorities.
She expressed her personal admiration for the victims’ bravery, acknowledging that their courage was instrumental in securing a successful prosecution.
'It is thanks to their bravery that we were able to bring Vandross to justice,' she said.
She also urged anyone who has experienced similar abuse to come forward and report it to the police, regardless of how much time has passed.
The department remains dedicated to targeting dangerous offenders like Vandross and ensuring they are held accountable in court.
