MATTHEW SALMON SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS IN PRISON FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN NOTTINGHAM
In a case that has shocked the Nottingham community, Matthew Salmon, aged 29, of Botany Avenue, St Ann’s, has been handed down a substantial prison sentence after being convicted of multiple serious charges related to the sexual abuse of a young girl. The sentencing took place at Nottingham Crown Court in December, following a trial in which Salmon was found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by a jury on all counts presented against him.
Salmon faced a series of grave allegations, including causing a child to watch a sexual act for his own gratification, which involved the victim viewing images of sexual activity on a laptop.
The charges also detailed that he caused a girl under the age of 13 to engage in sexual acts on at least three separate occasions.
Additionally, he was accused of attempting to sexually assault a child under 13, and of committing acts of sexual penetration on at least three occasions.
The prosecution also brought forward two separate charges of sexual assault and three counts of raping a child under 13.
Throughout the trial, Salmon maintained his innocence, denying all allegations.
However, the evidence presented was compelling enough for the jury to find him guilty on every charge.
The case came to light after the victim confided in a volunteer from Childline, who was visiting her school to deliver a workshop titled ‘The Speak Out Stay Safe’ project, aimed at educating children about sexual abuse and how to seek help.
Judge Gregory Dickinson QC, who presided over the case and delivered the sentence, emphasized the severity of Salmon’s crimes.
In addition to the 15-year prison term, the judge ordered that Salmon serve an extra year on license, which extends his period of supervision and probation after his release.
Furthermore, Salmon was mandated to register as a sex offender, a measure intended to monitor his activities and prevent further harm.
In his sentencing remarks, Judge Dickinson described the crimes as “serious and repeated sexual abuse of a very young child,” highlighting that the offenses encompassed nearly the entire spectrum of sexual abuse.
The judge’s comments underscored the gravity of Salmon’s actions and the profound impact on the victim’s life, reflecting the judicial system’s stance on such heinous crimes committed within the Nottingham area.
