SOUTH COAST MAN SENTENCED AFTER GROOMING TEEN ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Matthew Lucas Cheshire, aged 21 and of Ranelagh Road in Weymouth, admitted three offences of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and a charge of sexual activity with a child at Bournemouth Crown Court.Cheshire, who was 20 at the time, was arrested following reports that he had been involved in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl he contacted over social media.
During an interview, he denied any sexual contact but messages exchanged with the girl involved sexual content and references to sexual activity.
He was further arrested after breaching bail conditions by continuing to message her, and examination of his phone confirmed grooming behavior.
He was sentenced in December 2020 to four years and two months in prison and was placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
