MATTHEW LOWE FROM AYLESBURY AND GRAVESEND CONVICTED OF CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES IN 1990
In a significant development in the ongoing fight against child sexual abuse, Matthew Lowe, a 41-year-old man residing in Medhurst Gardens, Gravesend, Kent, has been found guilty of serious offences committed nearly three decades ago. The conviction was handed down by a jury at Amersham Crown Court on a recent Friday, following a detailed trial that uncovered disturbing details of Lowe’s actions in the early 1990s.According to court records, Lowe was convicted on three counts of indecent assault involving a girl who was under the age of ten at the time. These offences reportedly took place in the Aylesbury area, a town known for its historic significance and community ties. The court also considered and ultimately acquitted Lowe of two additional charges of gross indecency with a girl under 14, indicating that the evidence did not meet the threshold for conviction on those counts.
The investigation into these allegations was led by Detective Constable Paula Benson, a member of the Aylesbury CID. In her statement, she emphasized the gravity of the offences and the impact they had on the victim. She stated, “These offences took place in 1990 when the victim was a young child. Lowe’s actions have stayed with the victim into her adult life.”
Det Con Benson also expressed gratitude towards the victim for her bravery in coming forward. “I want to thank her for having the courage to report the offences to us and give evidence at court,” she added. Her testimony was instrumental in securing the conviction, highlighting the importance of victims’ willingness to speak out despite the passage of time.
The officer further urged others who may have been victims of sexual offences or who know someone affected to come forward. “If you have been a victim of a sexual offence or know anyone who has, please let us know and we will do everything to help,” she said.
Lowe is scheduled to be sentenced at Amersham Crown Court on February 13. The court’s decision will determine the severity of the punishment, which could include a lengthy prison term, reflecting the seriousness of the crimes committed nearly 30 years ago.
