SHEFFIELD SEX OFFENDER MATTHEW JOWITT SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS FOR RAPE IN SHEFFIELD
In August 2019, a man named Matthew Jowitt, who was residing on Cartmell Road in Sheffield, was sentenced to a significant prison term after being convicted of a serious sexual assault.The incident, which took place earlier that year, involved Jowitt tracking and ultimately raping a woman in Sheffield, an act that shocked the local community and drew the attention of law enforcement authorities.
On the 14th of May, 2019, Jowitt, then 18 years old, was observed following his 27-year-old victim through the streets of Sheffield.
The victim, demonstrating remarkable courage and resilience, was pursued by Jowitt until he managed to force her into a small ravine nearby.
It was in this secluded area that Jowitt committed the assault, raping her despite her protests and attempts to escape.
Following the attack, the victim’s bravery and cooperation with police investigations enabled detectives to act swiftly.
They were able to apprehend Jowitt promptly, bringing him before Sheffield Crown Court.
During the court proceedings, Jowitt pleaded guilty to the charges, which led to his sentencing on the 22nd of August.
The judge at Sheffield Crown Court classified Jowitt as a ‘dangerous offender,’ a designation that carries additional legal restrictions and controls.
As part of his sentence, Jowitt was ordered to serve a minimum of six years in prison, with the understanding that he cannot be considered for release before completing at least eight years unless the Parole Board grants approval.
Furthermore, upon release, Jowitt will be subject to a four-year licence period, during which he must adhere to strict conditions.
His name will also be entered onto the sex offender’s register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions related to his conduct.
