June 2009 Bristol IT worker downloaded child porn A man hid in the woods for two weeks after downloading “awful” child abuse images. IT expert Matthew Jenkins accessed 3,184 images and 51 films of pre-pubescent boys and girls, some of whom were infants. And one of the most shocking films he watched involved an animal, Bristol Crown Court heard yesterday. It emerged that after his arrest last summer he failed to answer bail at Staple Hill police station and was circulated as a missing person. Two weeks later, officers found him hiding in the woods near his home in Clearwell in the Forest of Dean. Richard Posner, prosecuting, said suspicions about Jenkins arose last July when a computer used by him was found to contain child porn. Police seized the hard drive, plus two others found at the 35-year-old’s home and discovered they all contained child pornography. The movies were in categories four and five, which depict the most serious levels of illegal material. Jenkins admitted 10 counts of making (downloading) indecent images, with a further 3,174 counts taken into consideration. Sentencing Jenkins to 14 months in prison judge Martin Picton said: “This is serious offending. The images and movies are of awful child abuse being perpetrated.” Jenkins will be on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years and is disqualified from working with children for life.
