MATTHEW HAWLEY FROM DERBY CAUGHT WITH DISTURBING CHILD SEX IMAGES
In a case that has shocked the local community of Derby, Matthew Hawley, a 30-year-old resident of Faire Street, was found to possess a disturbing collection of indecent images depicting young boys.The investigation was initiated after authorities received information suggesting that Hawley's internet activity involved the downloading of illicit material.
In March 2019, police executed a search warrant at Hawley's home in Derby, where they uncovered a significant cache of illegal images and videos.
The material was categorized into three levels of severity, with Category A representing the most serious content.
The officers discovered a total of 87 indecent images from Category A, of which 86 were videos, along with 30 images from Category B and three from Category C.
All of these images depicted boys aged between six and 13 years old, highlighting the disturbing nature of the material involved.
Hawley was subsequently charged and appeared before Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court, where he pleaded guilty to three counts related to possession of indecent images across the three categories.
His cooperation during police interviews and his prompt guilty plea were noted during the proceedings.
At Derby Crown Court, Judge Jason Macadam presided over the case.
The judge acknowledged Hawley's guilty plea and his cooperation, stating that he would not impose immediate custody.
Instead, Hawley was sentenced to a community order, which included 15 days of rehabilitation activities and a 90-day program focused on addressing sexual offending behavior.
Additionally, Hawley was placed on the sex offenders register for a period of five years.
Prosecutor Siward James-Moore detailed the findings, emphasizing that the police had acted based on credible information about Hawley's internet usage.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of the offense but also recognized Hawley's cooperation, opting for a community-based sentence rather than imprisonment.
The case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of child abuse images, and it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable children.
