MATTHEW HAMMOND'S BRUTAL ATTACK IN CANONBIE LEAVES DOG DEAD AND COMMUNITY SHOCKED

In a disturbing incident that has shocked the small community of Canonbie, Matthew Hammond, born on October 22, 1985, was involved in a violent attack that resulted in the death of a two-year-old Jack Russell terrier. Hammond, who most recently resided at Thorniewhats Farm in Canonbie with the postal code DG14 0SQ, was found to have inflicted fatal injuries on the innocent dog in the early hours of the morning.

The incident occurred around 5:30 am, a time when Hammond, who had been staying overnight at a friend's house after a night of drinking, was walking back to his caravan. He was accompanied by his partner’s bull terrier and his own Jack Russell. According to reports, Hammond suddenly launched a vicious assault on the small dog, punching and kicking her with such ferocity that she succumbed to her injuries. Witnesses reported hearing the distressed yelping and squeals of the dog, which prompted concerned neighbors to contact the police immediately.

Eyewitnesses observed Hammond dragging the tiny dog along the street for approximately a hundred yards, a scene of brutality that has left the community deeply disturbed. The police quickly traced Hammond to his caravan, where they found the deceased dog lying wrapped in a blanket on the floor. A post-mortem examination was subsequently arranged to determine the exact cause of death.

Hammond’s background reveals that he originally hails from High Street in North Berwick, East Lothian. At the time of his court appearance, he was reported to be living on Scotland Street in Carlisle. His solicitor described the incident as having a “catastrophic” impact on Hammond’s professional life, noting that he had recently left his position as a stable assistant with James Ewart Racing in Langholm. Hammond, who is linked to Micky Hammond Racing through ownership of a horse, has since relinquished all contact with animals and no longer owns any.

Following the court proceedings, Hammond was sentenced to a community payback order. Additionally, he was banned from keeping any animals for a period of three years, although this ban has now expired. The case has sparked widespread outrage among residents and animal lovers alike, highlighting the need for stricter measures to prevent such acts of cruelty in the future.
