MENTAL HEALTH PATIENT ADMITS TO MOTHER’S MURDER IN LITTLEBOROUGH
A man named Matthew Brierley, aged 45, has confessed to the murder of his mother, Glennis Brierley, in December 2013 at her home in Littleborough.During the trial, it was revealed that Brierley was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia and believed that his parents were involved in a satanic paedophile conspiracy.
After the killing, he contacted emergency services, stating, "I just murdered somebody." His mother, a psychotherapist, was discovered at her Shore Road residence with multiple stab wounds to the neck and chest, with a kitchen knife found nearby.
Brierley admitted to the crime, describing how he went after her and watched himself stabbing her.
He also held delusional beliefs that supported his actions.
Forensic psychologists testified that his mental condition rendered him 'largely blameless,' and he was due for sentencing shortly after the hearing.
