ALUN KEW FROM LITTLEBOROUGH FLEEING TO THAILAND AFTER DOWNLOAD OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In August 2013, a disturbing case unfolded involving Alun Kew, a 40-year-old man from Gale Street, Littleborough, who became the subject of a serious criminal investigation related to the possession and distribution of indecent images of children.The case drew significant attention due to the severity of the charges and the subsequent actions taken by law enforcement authorities.
Initially, Kew was arrested in July of the previous year when police executed a warrant at his residence.
At that time, he was taken into custody and subsequently released on bail, pending further inquiries into his activities.
The investigation revealed that Kew was involved in the downloading of a substantial number of indecent images, with reports indicating that he was responsible for nearly 9,000 such images, many classified as 'Level 5,' which is considered the most serious and distressing category of child exploitation material.
Despite being released on bail, Kew did not comply with the conditions set by the authorities.
Instead, he chose to evade law enforcement and went on the run.
His movements took him from Burnley to Thailand, where he sought refuge in an attempt to avoid arrest.
His trail eventually led investigators to an address in Glasgow, where he was located and subsequently apprehended.
Following his arrest, Kew was brought before Carlisle Crown Court on Thursday, August 29.
During the court proceedings, he pleaded guilty to 27 counts of possession of indecent images of children and two counts of distribution of such images.
His guilty plea resulted in a sentence of three years in prison.
Additionally, the court ordered Kew to sign the Sex Offenders Register and imposed a Sexual Offenders Prevention Order that will remain in effect for ten years.
PC Gregory Chambers, a police officer involved in the case, emphasized the gravity of Kew’s crimes, stating, “Kew was responsible for downloading and distributing almost 9,000 indecent images, many of them ‘Level 5,’ which are regarded as the most serious and distressing in terms of content.
Behind each of these images is a real victim.” He further explained, “Kew then exploited the benefit of the doubt he was given when he was bailed.
He felt he could evade capture by going on the run and setting up a new life in Scotland.” PC Chambers concluded with a firm message to the public and fellow law enforcement officers: “The clear message here is GMP officers will leave no stone unturned in bringing serious offenders to justice.”
