Powys pair, Matthew Aldridge and Sara Hall jailed for life for horrific child sexual abuse

POWYS PAIR, MATTHEW ALDRIDGE AND SARA HALL JAILED FOR LIFE FOR HORRIFIC CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE

A man from Knighton, named Matthew Aldridge, has received a life sentence in prison following a long-standing campaign of sexual abuse directed at children that lasted over twenty years.

The 56-year-old was convicted after a trial held in September, where he faced 27 charges including rape, attempt to commit rape, gross indecency, indecent assault, and inciting a minor to engage in sexual acts.

During sentencing at Mold Crown Court, Judge Niclas Parry condemned Aldridge’s actions, describing them as displaying “no limit to the depravity,” and referred to him as a “degenerate.” He was given a minimum term of 24 years but was made explicitly clear that his release would not be automatic afterward.

The case also implicated Sara Hall, aged 46, who was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for perverting the course of justice and child cruelty, notably for coercing a victim into changing her testimony.

Victims told of how the abuse was internalized over time and caused deep psychological harm, with one survivor sharing that she only recognized herself as a victim once she was an adult.

Throughout the trial, Aldridge maintained his innocence despite evidence of his dangerous and immoral behavior.

Judge Parry highlighted the systematic and vile nature of the offenses and emphasized the severe impact on the victims, which led to the life term and lifelong risk management measures.

Detective Constable Liz Evans from Dyfed-Powys Police praised the victims’ courage and explained that the investigation was extensive and challenging, with the culprits showing no remorse.

This case highlights the persistent challenge of child sexual abuse and the critical need for ongoing victim support.
