LYNEHAM SEX OFFENDER MATHEW CARLSSON SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN SWINDON

In September 2020, a disturbing case involving a convicted sex offender from Lyneham came to light, revealing the extent of his predatory behavior and online activities. The individual, identified as 49-year-old Mathew Carlsson, was found guilty of engaging in heinous acts related to child exploitation and was subsequently sentenced to four and a half years in prison.

Details emerged during a court hearing at Swindon Crown Court, where it was revealed that Carlsson had been actively involved in online chats that sexualized minors and detailed his disturbing fantasies. The court heard that Carlsson had spoken openly about molesting what he believed to be a 12-year-old girl, describing in graphic terms his intentions to use sex toys, which he referred to as 'magic wands,' on the girl. He also expressed his willingness to provide financial support to her, portraying a disturbing image of a manipulative and exploitative relationship.

His conversations extended beyond mere chat, as he played out these sick fantasies both in web chatrooms and during a phone call with the supposed girl and her mother. Unbeknownst to Carlsson, he was actually communicating with undercover police officers tasked with monitoring online predators. The officers had set up the sting to catch individuals like him, who seek to exploit children through digital means.

Judge Jason Taylor QC sentenced Carlsson to four years and six months in prison, emphasizing the severity of his actions. The judge stated, "In the conversations generally you sexualized the topics, you went into graphic detail, you taught this young girl about the role of a dominant daddy, saying you would look after her, that would include financial support, but also reassuring her as to your intentions."

Prior to his arrest, Carlsson had engaged in online exchanges with a woman on the website Chat Avenue. His username was MattDDLG71, with the 'DD' indicating his interest in a dominant daddy or father-daughter fetish. The conversations later moved to the Kik messaging app. The woman claimed to be 32 years old and had a 12-year-old daughter. Carlsson described both the woman and her daughter as 'sexy' and spoke explicitly about sexual acts he wished to perform, including references to a dungeon. He also claimed to have previously 'owned' a girl aged 12 to 14 and another older girl, revealing his disturbing fantasies.

Prosecutor Caighli Taylor explained that Carlsson had also spoken to the girl on the phone, describing their relationship as a 'daddy don' and the daughter as being about 'experimenting' and being looked after by her 'daddy don.' He even discussed performing oral sex on the young girl. The conversations with the woman included arrangements to meet her and the girl at a hotel, where they planned to share a meal. However, these plans were abandoned several days before the scheduled meeting in the East Midlands on April 25.

Following his arrest in May, authorities discovered on Carlsson’s Lenovo tablet chat logs that he had sent a video via Kik of a child aged four to six being raped by an adult male. The video was sent to a Kik user who claimed to be 13 years old and had a six-year-old sister. Additionally, Carlsson had sent category C indecent images of children, falsely claiming they were his own children, to another Kik user. His device also contained three indecent films of children in category A, five images in category B, and 29 images in category C, all of an indecent nature.

In court, Carlsson pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including arranging to commit a child sex offence, attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor, distributing indecent images, and possession of such images. His actions prompted the court to impose a lifelong sexual harm prevention order and to place him on the sex offenders’ register for life, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
