EASTBOURNE MAN MARTYN SHORE SENTENCED FOR MONSTROUS SEX OFFENCES AGAINST SHEFFIELD CHILDREN
In a case that has shocked the community and highlighted the enduring trauma faced by victims, Martyn Peter Shore, a 45-year-old resident of Pensford Drive in Eastbourne, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offences committed against three children in Sheffield.The crimes, which spanned over a period of seven years from 1998 to 2005, involved the abuse of two girls and one boy, all of whom were between the ages of eight and 15 at the time of the incidents.
Despite Shore’s vehement denial of the allegations, the evidence presented during the trial was overwhelming.
The jury, after less than three hours of deliberation, found him guilty on multiple counts, including indecent assault, sexual assault by penetration, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and attempted rape.
The swift verdict underscores the severity of the crimes and the strength of the evidence against him.
The victims, who only came forward in 2013, demonstrated remarkable courage in reporting their abuse to the police after years of silence.
Their decision to speak out initiated a lengthy and complex investigation, which ultimately led to Shore’s conviction.
Detective Constable Carly Booth, who led the investigation, expressed her admiration for the victims’ bravery.
She stated, “This has been a lengthy and complicated investigation and I want to take this opportunity to commend all three victims for their courage in coming forward.” She further emphasized the emotional toll of the case, noting that Shore’s refusal to accept responsibility forced the victims to relive their traumatic experiences in court.
“Shore forced his victims through the further trauma of reliving their horrific abuse in court as he refused to accept responsibility for his heinous crimes,” Booth said.
She praised the victims for their resilience, saying, “Throughout this process the victims have shown tremendous strength of character and for this, they should also be commended.” The detective highlighted the gravity of Shore’s actions, describing his prolonged abuse of vulnerable children as “monstrous” and noting the devastating impact on their young lives.
The substantial sentence handed down reflects the seriousness of his crimes, and Booth expressed hope that the victims find some solace in the fact that Shore is now behind bars.
“The significant sentence handed to Shore last week reflects the gravity of his crimes and I hope the victims take some small comfort in knowing that their abuser is behind bars,” she concluded.
