EDINBURGH MONSTER MARTYN GRIFFITHS SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRLS
In a case that has shocked the community of Edinburgh, Martyn Griffiths, a man with a disturbing history of abusing young girls, has been sentenced to nearly seven years in prison for his heinous crimes.The offences spanned over a decade, during which Griffiths preyed on two vulnerable schoolgirls at various locations across Edinburgh, beginning in 1993 and continuing until 2004.
Griffiths, now aged 48, was found guilty of multiple counts of sexual abuse and rape.
Despite his attempts to deny the allegations, he underwent a lie detector test which failed to exonerate him.
The court heard that Griffiths had repeatedly assaulted the victims at different addresses within Edinburgh, exploiting their trust and innocence.
During the sentencing at the High Court in Glasgow, Lord Turnbull described Griffiths' actions as 'abhorrent' and emphasized the devastating impact of such crimes on young lives.
The judge revealed that Griffiths had effectively groomed his victims, with one girl being just eight years old when the abuse first began.
The court was told that one girl was raped when she was between nine and 16 years old, while the other was abused from age eight until she was 17.
Lord Turnbull stated, 'The sexual abuse of children reflects the most appalling and unacceptable conduct.
It ruins lives and affects those impacted for many years after what happened.' The judge also noted that the sentence would have been longer—up to nine years—had Griffiths not pleaded guilty to the charges.
Prosecutor Angela Gray described the case as involving a 'criminal course of conduct systematically pursued by Griffiths.' The court heard that Griffiths was caring for the two girls while their mother was working, which provided him with opportunities to commit these terrible acts.
The offences included the rape of one girl when she was 14 and the other when she was between 16 and 17.
This case has left a lasting scar on the Edinburgh community, highlighting the importance of vigilance and safeguarding vulnerable children from predators like Martyn Griffiths.
