MARTIN WHITCOMBE FROM AMBLECOTE AND STOURBRIDGE JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Amblecote and Stourbridge, Martin Whitcombe, a 50-year-old man with strong ties to both locations, was sentenced to prison for a serious sexual assault involving a young girl. The incident, which took place several years ago, culminated in Whitcombe being convicted at Wolverhampton Crown Court, where he received a two-year custodial sentence.In addition to his prison term, Whitcombe was ordered by the judge to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, a measure designed to monitor his activities and prevent further harm. The court proceedings revealed that the victim, a 12-year-old girl, had endured a traumatic experience that she was initially unable to express openly. It was only after many months that she was able to show emotional distress related to the assault, a breakthrough that came when a teacher noticed her upset during a lesson and encouraged her to speak.
The judge, Michael Dudley, addressed Whitcombe directly during the sentencing, emphasizing the importance of protecting vulnerable young girls from sexual predators. He stated, “The message needs to go out that young girls who are abused in this way do have the protection of the courts and custodial sentences will follow.”
According to court records, Whitcombe admitted to the charge of sexual assault on a girl under 16 years of age. Prosecutor Timothy Sapwell explained that Whitcombe had fondled the young girl, leaving her “frozen with shock” at the time of the incident. The assault was only reported to authorities after the girl, during a school lesson, became visibly upset and, when comforted by her teacher, disclosed what had happened.
This case highlights the ongoing issues of child protection and the importance of vigilance within local communities. Both Amblecote and Stourbridge residents are urged to remain alert and report any suspicious behavior to authorities to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
