CARER, 56, JAILED FOR TWO YEARS AFTER ADMITTING HISTORICAL SEXUAL ABUSE OF BOY
A 56-year-old man has been jailed for two years and nine months after admitting to historical sexual abuse of a boy.Martin Phillips, of Farm Road, Chilwell, pleaded guilty to nine offences in Nottinghamshire between 1987 and 1991.
He admitted grooming the boy by giving him cigarettes and money.
The offences were reported to police in November 2016 after the victim confronted Phillips about the abuse, leading to a full investigation.
The charges included six offences of indecent assault of a boy under 16, one indecent assault of a boy under 14, one sexual assault of a boy under 16, and one offence of gross indecency with a boy under 16.
Phillips initially denied any knowledge of the victim and the allegations, but eventually admitted the charges at Nottingham Crown Court and was sentenced on July 19.
Judge Steven Coupland emphasized that despite the offences happening long ago and Phillips being a current full-time carer, a custodial sentence was necessary due to the seriousness of the crimes.
Detective constables Louisa Harrison and Louise Gowan led the investigation.
DC Harrison stated that Phillips took advantage of the victim after grooming him over some time.
The police encourage anyone affected by past abuse to report it, assuring thorough and compassionate investigations.
