MARTIN MOYLAN FROM WIRRAL SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN LIVERPOOL

In a case that has shocked the local community, Martin Moylan, a resident of Wirral, was sentenced to serve eight months in prison after admitting to engaging in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl. The court also ordered Moylan to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, emphasizing the seriousness of his actions and the need for ongoing public protection.

Judge Denis Clark, presiding over Liverpool Crown Court, delivered a stern message during the sentencing, stating, "I must send out the message: 'Hands off young girls.' They must be allowed to develop in their own time and in their own direction. The law is there to protect them from their own folly and weaknesses, particularly when drunk.'" The judge’s words underscored the importance of safeguarding minors from exploitation and the legal consequences of such misconduct.

Details of the case revealed that Moylan, aged 25 at the time, was a former private in the military who had previously been discharged. It was disclosed that he had re-enlisted last year under a different surname and was classified as AWOL when he committed the offense. The court heard that Moylan had tricked his way back into the Army after being discharged, only to be absent without leave at the time of the incident.

According to the prosecution, Moylan’s offense took place in May of that year in Wirral. The victim, a 13-year-old girl, was babysitting at a house along with two older girls. During the evening, the girl consumed some wine provided for the group. At around 3 a.m., Moylan arrived at the residence, and the four sat together in a room furnished with a mattress and cushions on the floor.

During the course of the evening, Moylan inquired about the girl’s age, asking if she was with him. The girl, who was told she was 13, was then asked if she was comfortable with him. Subsequently, they lay together on the mattress, and after the other girls left the room, Moylan engaged in sexual intercourse with her on three separate occasions. The girl later told the court that she felt dizzy and wanted to sleep, which suggests she was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

After the incidents, Moylan drove the girl home and warned her not to tell her parents, implying that he would claim she was 16 if questioned. The offense was eventually reported when the girl confided in her school nurse, leading to Moylan’s arrest and subsequent prosecution.

During the trial, Moylan’s defense lawyer, Anne Whyte, argued that her client had not intoxicated the girl and denied that he instructed her not to disclose the incident to her parents. She also highlighted that Moylan was estranged from his wife and described him as a hardworking individual with aspirations in the performing arts, including plans to become a DJ.
