August 2010 Man is jailed for showing a lewd image to girl, 8 A PERVERT has been jailed for luring a little girl into looking at a “rude” image on his phone. A court heard the eight-year-old was playing with her older brother in Pitsea on October 4 last year when convicted sex offender Martin Leonard appeared on the scene. He asked the child if she wanted to see something on his mobile phone. When she looked, the youngster told police later it looked “rude”, so she shouted to her 12-year-old brother for help. Leonard drove off in a car but Chelmsford Crown Court heard a passer-by realised something was going on and took down the number of Leonard’s car. Leonard, 24, was later arrested. At the time, Leonard was under the terms of a sexual offences prevention order which banned him from being with or approaching anyone under 18. He had received the order as part of a sentence for possessing thousands of pornographic images of young children including some at the most serious level. Leonard, formerly from Upland Close, Billericay, but now of St Clements Street, Oxford, admitted charges of causing a child under the age of 13 to look at an image of sexual activity and breaking the terms of the sex prevention order. Judge Christopher Ball QC jailed him for three and a half years, and put him on the sex offenders’ register for life. Leonard was also given another sex prevention order for an indefinite period. The judge told Leonard he was heading in the direction of being a “committed, active paedophile”. Leonard’s original sex prevention order had been imposed by Basildon Crown Court, after he was caught with a total of 6,366 indecent images and short moving images of children as young as 18 months.
