MARTIN KELLY FROM BOLTON SENTENCED TO INDEFINITE IMPRISONMENT FOR CHILD ABUSE CRIMES

In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Bolton, a man named Martin Kelly, aged 51, has been sentenced to an indefinite prison term after being found guilty of a series of heinous crimes involving the abuse of children over a span of fifteen years.

Kelly’s criminal activities came to light following a police raid on his residence in Bolton on October 20 of the previous year. The investigation was triggered by a confession Kelly made during an online chatroom, where he openly boasted about his past abuse of children. This admission prompted authorities to act swiftly, leading to a thorough search of his home.

During the raid, law enforcement officials discovered three DVDs containing extreme pornography, along with various cameras and a computer. Among the files stored on the device was one labeled “babe,” which contained disturbing and indecent images of a child Kelly had previously abused. These findings were presented at Bolton Crown Court, revealing the extent of his criminal conduct.

Kelly faced a total of 28 charges, which he admitted to. The charges included eight counts of sexual assault of a child, with some instances involving rape, as well as eight counts of taking indecent photographs of children. Additionally, he was charged with distributing an indecent image via the internet, downloading 300 indecent images, and possessing 34 images depicting bestiality. The images he downloaded ranged from the least severe to the most disturbing categories, with some classified as level five, indicating the most serious and heinous material.

Prosecutor Joseph Allman detailed the impact of Kelly’s abuse, particularly highlighting the youngest victim, a girl under two years old at the time of her victimization. The young child was so traumatized that she became terrified of bathing or being undressed, often screaming and vomiting during such moments. Other victims expressed feelings of guilt for not reporting the abuse sooner and now struggle with trust issues, especially towards men.

During the court proceedings, Kelly’s defense attorney, Kimberley Morton, stated that her client acknowledged the severity of his actions, saying, “The defendant told me he deserves everything he gets.” She also noted that Kelly was aware he would likely spend the rest of his life in prison, remarking, “He realises he will be an old man when he is released from custody.”

Judge Maureen Roddy, presiding over the case, sentenced Kelly to an indefinite term of imprisonment, emphasizing the importance of protecting the public from such dangerous individuals. She expressed hope that the victims, especially the youngest, would find support and be able to recover from their trauma. The judge also wished for the victims to have the love and nurturing necessary to lead healthy adult lives.

Throughout the sentencing, Kelly showed no visible emotion as he was led out of the courtroom. Victims, along with their families and friends, held hands in a show of solidarity and support as the sentence was announced, underscoring the profound impact of his crimes on their lives.
